PANJIM: Directorate of Transport has suspended 240 driving licences in the last three months acting on complaints received from enforcement agencies.
Transport Director Nikhil Desai said the department has been receiving various complaints from enforcement agencies, including the Traffic Police, and based on these complaints and violations the registration authorities have suspended the licences.
He said that out of 240 suspended licences, 102 were suspended for speaking on a cell phone while driving or riding and 96 for drunken driving.
In the last three months, Transport Department and the Traffic Cell of Goa Police have strictly enforced the Motor Vehicle Rules following a rise in accidental deaths and fatalities.
The Department is also in the process of strengthening enforcement and has launched a complaint app which can be downloaded on a cell phone and a complaint of traffic violations sent to the department.
Desai said that in the last 20 days over 400 people have downloaded the complaint App and the department has received almost 80 complaints.
