PANJIM: As many as 25 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) in the State will be provided free latest brain-controlled myoelectric hands (prosthetic hands) free of cost, informed Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities.

A two-day artificial limb fitting and assistance camp was held at the Sanjay School, Porvorim by the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities to help PwDs live independently.
Pawaskar said, “Those who have no hands, have lost their hands in accidents, or have lost them while working will benefit greatly from the newest brain-controlled myoelectric hand. With this artificial hand, PwDs no longer have to depend on others for daily task.”
With the assistance of the medical fraternity, a preliminary examination was carried out during the camp. Each artificial hand costs roughly Rs 1.5 lakh, and it will be fitted in the upcoming days.
At the camp also present were Niraj Saxena, Director, ‘P&O International Private Limited’, a Delhi-based company that produces artificial hands and Dr Rajendra Kasalkar. “After the hand is fitted, PwDs will be trained how to use the artificial hand in the next camp,” said Saxena.
