PANJIM: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday said that three former chief ministers have made promises on the Regional Plan, which have not been fulfilled
Interestingly, the three chief ministers are Digambar Kamat, Manohar Parrikar and Laxmikant Parsekar with the last two being from the party he now is in alliance with. Also Parrikar, who promised Regional Plan 2021 in 2012, is Chief Minister at present.
“Before me three chief ministers promised Regional Plan, which has not happened. I don’t want to make false promises,” Sardesai said without naming anyone. The minister, who was on a routine visit to the TCP department, and said he is not making any individual accusation.
“The system is such that things are not moving forward. The system involves planning authorities, individuals, activists, even you and me,” he said and added, “We need to put in a system that works. A plan which was supposed to come in 2001 does not happen till 2017. It goes to show that the system is not working.”
Sardesai, who once opposed the government for anything and everything, now says, “What is happening in Goa today is that people feel there is a need to have a plan but they don’t want any plan. There is opposition to this, there is opposition to that and eventually we are left with nothing.”
He suggested that there is need to reach a common minimum approach where it has to be decided that we are going to go this way forward.
