32k vaccine doses received for 18 & above age group

PANJIM: The State government on Wednesday received 32,870 doses of Covishield from the Serum Institute of India (SII) for the age group of 18-45. The government had, however, placed an order for five lakh vaccines.

Speaking to Herald, State Immunisation Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar said that a small quantity of 32,870 doses have been received from SII.

He said that the decision on when to start the immunisation drive for those 18 and above will be taken considering the small quantity of the vaccine availability. 

Vaccination of adults in the age group of 18-44 was to commence from May 1, however, it was held back due to non-availability of vaccines. The State government has decided to provide vaccine free of cost.

Meanwhile, Manipal Hospital has administered 1344 doses of Covaxin to those aged between18 and 45. The hospital charges Rs 1350 per dose. 

The State government has so far administered 4,00,669 doses to those above 45 and front line workers. This includes the first as well as second dose.
