Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently addressed the media, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the welfare of freedom fighters’ families. He revealed that 398 children of freedom fighters have already been employed in government jobs under various administrations, and assured that the remaining 25 will be recruited by December 2025, with relaxed eligibility norms if necessary.
Speaking about the progress of the employment scheme for children of freedom fighters, Sawant said, “We have consistently honored our freedom fighters by extending government job opportunities to their children. Only 25 are left to be absorbed, and we are committed to completing the process before the end of next year.”

The employment scheme, introduced in 2013, was aimed at recognizing the sacrifices made by Goa’s freedom fighters. Over the years, the scheme has undergone multiple revisions. Sawant highlighted that reservation under Group ‘C’ direct recruitment posts has now been increased to 10%, a significant jump from the earlier 2-5%. Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ posts continue to have a 2% reservation, implemented through roster points. The scheme remains valid until February 2026 or until all eligible candidates are employed, whichever is earlier.
Sawant acknowledged that many of the remaining candidates are struggling to meet qualification norms, especially those who have not completed Class X. “We will not allow educational qualifications to stand in the way. Those who are not matriculate will be recruited as multi-tasking staff,” he said, adding that relaxations will be provided to ensure no one is left out.
The Chief Minister also clarified that the scheme is designed to accommodate one eligible child per freedom fighter, even if multiple applications exist within a single family. “Our goal is not just numbers, but fairness and respect for the sacrifices made,” he said.
Since taking office in 2019, Sawant noted that more than 250 children of freedom fighters have been employed, with efforts intensified over the last few years to clear the backlog.
“This initiative is a tribute to our freedom fighters. We are ensuring their legacy lives on through meaningful support to their families,” he concluded.
