4-cornered contest for Calangute seat

CALANGUTE: The Zilla Parishad election for the Calangute seat is likely to be a four-cornered contest, with candidates being declared by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes and Calangute leader Joseph Sequeira.

CALANGUTE: The Zilla Parishad election for the Calangute seat is likely to be a four-cornered contest, with candidates being declared by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes and Calangute leader Joseph Sequeira.
Another heavyweight in the contest is former Calangute sarpanch Laxman Porob.
The election is likely to test the popularity of the three leaders of Calangute in the coastal villages of Calangute, Candolim and Arpora-Baga.
Though the Congress party is not contesting the ZP polls on party lines, Congress leader Agnelo Fernandes has put up his own candidate Ramkrishna Kerkar, who is backed by Candolim Panchayat. Kerkar filed his nomination on Monday in the presence of Fernandes, Candolim Sarpanch Sandra Fialho and other Candolim panchas.
Joseph Sequeira along with the Calangute Panchayat has declared Savio Gonsalves as their candidate for the ZP polls. Gonsalves is likely to file his nomination papers on Tuesday.
The Calangute BJP along with its MLA Lobo has nominated Shawn Martins as their candidate and Martins is also likely to file his nomination papers on Tuesday.
Former Calangute sarpanch Laxman Porob has also filed his nomination on Monday.
