PANJIM: Stating that he has no differences with anyone in view of the panel that was selected for the upcoming municipal elections, Panjim MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate, said they have selected a well-balanced panel where 50 per cent of the candidates are young.

Speaking to the media persons after the BJP panel was announced, Babush was asked about how some BJP councillors in the present term were not named as candidates for the coming Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) elections, he said they could not accommodate everyone.
“Ultimately, we have found the candidates who will work for the people and their wards and that is most important,” the BJP MLA added. He added that he doesn’t have differences with anyone. “They may have differences with me, but I don’t have that ego and can work with anyone. I have given an olive branch to them,” he said.
When asked about the selection of his son Rohit and the son of former Panjim mayor Yatin Parekh, Karan, Babush pointed out that there are several others who are first timers and by giving them the opportunity, it would ensure the level of enthusiasm is high.
“They will be keen to prove their mettle,” he added. He also made a note that this time, unlike the previous three terms where his panel has won, he now has the advantage of being a sitting MLA.
Adding that the objectives of the panel would be the same as the previous one, Babush said once they go door-to-door they will find out if they have left out anything and how they can fulfil the demands of the people.
On his stance on casinos, he said the main problem with casinos is the free flow of traffic, and that they haven’t received much support from the traffic police who are not doing their duty well of maintaining traffic discipline.
“Why this is, is a question for the Chief Minister and I will be asking this on the Floor of the House soon,” he added.
