PANJIM: Demanding that the State government resolves several of their pending issues such as giving them better pay and permanent status to temporary drivers, the Kadamba Transport Corporation Drivers and Allied Employees Association held a day-long hunger strike outside the Labour Commissioner’s Office, here, on Monday.

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) is supporting the strike and its General Secretary Christopher Fonseca, who is also the association’s GS, said the Chief Minister is aware of the employees’ struggles but the government is least bothered about their concerns.
Their main demand is that the 7th Pay Commission should be implemented from January 1, 2016, when it was promulgated. They lamented that the State government had instead started implementing it from November 2018, which should be corrected as it was an injustice to the KTC workers.
In this regard, Fonseca referred to a Supreme Court directive on the pay commission issue and said the KTC employees have thus been deprived of the payments that were due to them for their hard work from the year 2016 to end of 2018.
Pressing on further, the Union said the government can clear these dues to the workers in installments if paying all of it in a large lump-sum is an issue for the State.
