In a sudden move by Prisons Department, six prison guards at Central Jail in Aguada were shunted and reassigned to three separate lock-ups.
It has been learnt that two guards each were shunted to Vasco Sub-Jail, Margao and Mapusa judicial lock-ups.
Sources say the guards were reassigned to other prisons soon after the senior officials were informed that drug dealer David Driham aka Dudu was supplied mobile phone, cigarette packets and other illegal substances.
Until their relieving orders, which will be probably issued tomorrow, the guards were stationed out-gate Aguada jail. Inspector General of Prisons Mihir Vardhan when contacted refuted the allegations.
“It is a routine transfer. We have been doing it almost every month. There is nothing exceptional in the fresh transfers,” he told Herald.
Dudu was lately shifted to Vasco Sub-Jail following complaints of his nuisances with other inmates and jail guards. It may be recalled Dudu twice attempted suicide while in Aguada cell when jail authorities wanted to shift him to another cell.
