PANJIM: Seven healthcare workers, who were administered the Covishield, the COVID-19 vaccine in the government-run hospitals, have developed ‘minor’ complaints as part of adverse events following immunisation (AEFI).
Speaking to Herald, Health Secretary Amit Satija informed that seven health workers- five in Hospicio and two in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC)- who were administered the vaccine have suffered ‘minor’ complaints; however, all are doing fine.

“There were seven minor complaints of AEFI. It was not allergic reaction but they suffered pain. These are very minor cases and all are doing fine. We are still monitoring them,” Satija said.
Around 426 health workers were administered vaccination in five government-run hospitals namely GMC, Hospicio, North Goa district hospital-Mapusa, Sub District Hospital-Ponda and Chicalim; while another 274 were vaccinated with Covishield at private hospitals – Manipal and Healthway.
Against the target of 800 health workers to be vaccinated on the first day on Saturday in seven centres, in all 700 were inoculated, the figures showed.
An AEFI is any untoward medical occurrence which follows immunisation and which does not necessarily have a causal relationship with the usage of the vaccine. The adverse event may be any unfavourable or unintended sign, abnormal laboratory finding, symptom or disease.
As per the statement issued by the government, Covishield vaccine is very safe, tried and tested. Two doses with a gap of 28 days will be administered. Persons under the age of 18 and pregnant ladies are exempted.
