Seven more nominations were received today for the North Goa parliamentary elections on the last day of filing nominations, at the North Goa Collectorate.
Those who filed nominations included BJPs Shripad Naik (2 sets), MGP’s Pandurang Raut, Shiv Sena’s Upendra Gaonkar, Dayanand Sopte (BJP), Narcinv Salgaocar (independent) and Marpa D’Souza (independent). In all, total eight candidates have filed 16 nominations with sitting MP Shripad Naik, Jitendra Deshprabhu (NCP), Christopher Fonseca (CPI), Upendra Gaonkar (Shiv Sena) and Pandurang Raut (MGP) already fling their one set of papers earlier.
Margao reporter adds: A total of 13 candidates, including five candidates representing political parties, have filed their papers for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat.
Besides, three persons filed their papers as dummy candidates for the respective parties.
The candidates are Francisco Sardinha (Cong), Narendra Sawaikar (BJP), Matanhy Saldanha (UGDP), Rohidas Borkar (SGF), Raju Mangueshkar (CPI) and Independent candidates Mulla Salim, Jawahar Dias, Derrick Dias, Hamza Khan, Salunke Smita Praveen, Francisco Antonio Joao de P Fernandes, Antonio Carvalho and Joaquim Rosario Rodrigues.
The dummy candidates are Antonio Fernandes (SGF), Domnick Fernandes (Cong) and Ramesh Tawadkar (BJP).
The scrutiny of the applications would be on April 6 while the last day for the withdrawal of candidature is April 8.
The voting is scheduled on April 23 in both constituencies.
