Speeding car crashes into parked truck in Mapusa, injuring seven tourists

PANJIM: Seven tourists from Satara in Maharashtra, were injured, three of them seriously, after the car in which they were travelling dashed against a container truck parked at Karaswada, Mapusa, on Monday.

The accident occurred at around 5.30 am when the tourists were proceeding to Mapusa. The car driver Shankar Arate, who was speeding, failed to notice the parked truck and rammed into it. The impact of the collision was such that the front portion of the car was completely damaged. The driver of the container fled from the scene with the vehicle.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel had to cut the car to get the occupants out.

The injured have been identified as Ganpat Kasit (47), Sachin Phalke (47), Uday Bhosale (45), Pramod Jhanjne (47), Dharmendra Phalke (48), Pramod Jadhav (48) and Shankar Arate (47). They were rushed to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.
