Donation made to Matrachaya
PANJIM: Shree Manguesh Devasthan made a donation of Rs 80,000 to Matrachaya Dhavli, Ponda, towards the welfare of eight children.
Matrachaya is a NGO that provides home for infants and children denied family life. President Hiren Kerkar and Secretary BVS Priolkar handed over a cheque to Dilip V Desai, member of Working Committee of Matrachaya in presence of Neema Mohandas Kamat, Secretary and Mandatai Patil Sanchalika. Kelkar praised the management and the staff of Matrachaya for selfless service for the welfare of the underprivileged children.
Natekar appointed member to IVF
PANJIM: Gurudas B Natekar was appointed executive member of International Vaish Federation recently. The founder President of the federation is ex MP Ramdas Agarwal and General Secretary is Baburam Gupta. Natekar is also the President of All India Vaishya Federation. Natekar is involved in the fields of education, banking, sport, industries etc. He is also a writer and a free lancer.
Home Décor expo at Taleigao
PANJIM: The Home Decor Show started on September 6 at Taleigao Community Hall and will conclude on September 9. On display are curtains and blinds, artificial flowers, paintings, home furnishings, indoor and outdoor furniture, kitchen and bathroom accessories, decorative item and beauty products. The expo also features home and office furniture, jewellery in brass and gemstones, Thailand products, aroma oil, fragrance candles, metal brushers and furniture and metal carving.
Jodhpur handicraft, pure sheasham wood furniture, dining sets, bar counters, LCD unit, etc are also on display. Carpets and pure Kashmir silk washable furs are also on display.
Wagh moots Yatri Niwas at Vailankanni
PANJIM: St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh at a press conference at Kala Academy, has requested the Goa Government to take immediate steps towards building a ‘Yatri Niwas’ in Vailankanni in Tamil Nadu, for the benefit of thousands of Goan pilgrims who visit the town seeking blessings of Our Lady of Vailankanni. Wagh informed that he has already written to the Chief Minister highlighting that on September 8 which marks the feast of Our Lady of Vailankanni in Tamil Nadu, thousands of Goans throng to the shrine of Our Lady to seek her blessings. He said the only problem faced is that of accommodation and hotels charge exorbitant rates.
“In these circumstances, it is my fervent request to the State government to take immediate steps to build a Goa Niwas pilgrims Centre which will help Goan pilgrims find accommodation at affordable rates,” Wagh says.
School items provided at Corlim
PANJIM: As part of community development programme, Syngenta’s Santa Monica plant distributed school uniforms and bags and stationery to 100 students of Government Primary School, Mangaddo-Corlim, Ilhas, at a function at the school on September 4. Victor Pereira, Deputy Sarpanch Corlim, Ganu Zalmi, panch and Chairman, PTA, P S Jagadeesha, Head CSR, Andrew D’ Souza, Sakharam Borkar Sulakshana Barve and Chaya Naik, Headmistress were present.
Pereira thanked Syngenta for providing the items to the students who belong to the lower income group. Zalmi, Jagadeesha, Borkar Andrew, Barve, Chaya Naik also spoke. Child killed in mishap at Dhargal
PERNEM: In a tragic mishap, a one-and-half-year-old boy was killed when he was knocked down by a truck at Dadachiwadi in Dhargal.
Krishna Raul of Dadachiwadi told Pernem police that the incident took place while Laxman Padloskar, also of Dadachiwadi, drove his truck (GA03-T-3911) in a rash and negligent manner, while proceeding from Sukekulan to Dadachiwadi.
The truck struck Krishna’s son Suraj Krishna Raul, who was standing by the roadside near their house killing him.
Pernem police has registered the case under Sections 279, 304-A IPC and Sec 134 (a) (b) of MV Act and PSI V S Chodankar is investigating the case.
1 dies, two hurt in Cansaulim mishap
VASCO: A 34-year-old man from Gallint-Bogmallo died while two others were injured in a road mishap near the Cansaulim railway gate in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to Verna Police, the incident took place as Digambar Naik was travelling along with two friends, John Goes (35) of Bogmallo and Ashwin Gaonkar (34) of Quepem, from Colva to Bogmallo in a car (GA-09-A-8090).
Police said Gaonkar, who was driving the car, rammed into some cement poles stacked by the roadside near the Cansaulim railway gate and the car turn turtle.
All three occupants were moved to the GMC hospital, where Naik was declared dead on arrival.
Goes was later moved to Hospicio at Margao, while Gaonkar was referred to a private hospital by his family. Verna PSI Anand Shirodkar is investigating the case.
Three held in theft attempt
PORVORIM: Three persons from Belgaum were nabbed while allegedly attempting to steal a purse from the Uccassaim panchayat office on Friday.
According to Mapusa police, Reena Vernekar of Uccassaim complained that Yankawa Porusanji, Radha Bishanstti and Shoba Shapauo tried to steal a purse containing cash of Rs 1600 inside the office, but were caught red-handed.
Police later arrested the accused under Sections 380, 511 r/w 34 IPC and ASI ASI L Sawant is investigating the case.
Two found dead in sea
PANJIM: Two persons were found dead in the Arabian Sea in separate incidents at Baga and Velsao on Friday.
In the first incident, the body of a man in his mid-thirties was found floating in the sea at Baga. The body was later shifted to the GMC mortuary for an autopsy and PSI Sushant Gawas is investigating the case.
In the second incident, the body of Mavvala Yerrayya (36), a native of Andhra Pradesh but residing at Colva, was found floating near the Velsao beach. The body was shifted to the Hospicio at Margao for autopsy and PSI A Shirodkar is investigating the case.
1 arrested for outraging modesty
PONDA: Collem police on Saturday arrested a 26-year-old man from Bharipwada-Collem on charges of outraging the modesty of a 28-year-old married woman.
According to Collem police, the complainant stated that the incident had taken place at about 11 pm on September 6.
The woman stated that the accused, Paresh Shigaonkar, trespassed into her house and forcibly touched her body and later tried to undress her. The incident took place when her husband was away. Collem police is investigating the case.
One held on theft charges
PONDA: Collem police on Saturday arrested Jitan Solanki, a native of Loni Kalabor in Pune on charges of stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 1.4 lakh.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by Prema Naik of Gandhi Nagar in Tal-Dharbandora. According to the complainant, gold ornaments worth Rs 1.4 lakh were missing from her house and the burglary came to light on Saturday morning. Solanki, who was residing in a rented room of the complainant’s house since the last eight days, has been arrested on suspicion.
Kunde Suzuki opens in Nuvem
MARGAO: Kunde Suzuki, the new dealership for Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd was opened at Nuvem on September 6 in the presence of Executive Vice-President Atul Gupta and National Head Anu Anamika.
Kunde Suzuki is the first automotive dealership of Kunde Cars and Bikes Pvt Ltd, a company promoted by Margao’s Kunde group, founded by late Keshav Sinai Kunde. The promoters Ketan Kamlaker Munde and Manguirish Prabhaker Kunde dedicated the dealership to their late grandfather, Keshav Sinai Kunde.
Chairman Prabhaker Kunde expressed great sense of pride at the successful launch, which has seen over 150 bookings in the three weeks prior to the launch.
Suzuki currently sells five two-wheelers in India, namely, Access 125, Swish 125, Hayate, Slingshot+ and GS150R.
CCTVs installed at Mapusa
PORVORIM: In a bid to beef up security at the Mapusa Sarvojanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has installed four CCTV cameras around the Sarvajanik Ganesh idol.
Speaking to reporters at Mapusa, MMC Chairman Sandeep Falari stated that though the Mapusa Police has already initiated measures to maintain law and order in the town during Ganesh festivities, the MMC has installed four CCTV cameras at the Mapusa Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal.
“The CCTV sets will be monitored at the Mapusa Police station and the footage will be preserved for eight days,” said Falari.
Falari also mentioned that MMC has distributed leaflets to public appealing to minimize use of firecrackers and to refrain from installing Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris.
“We have also appealed to people to avoid sound pollution by avoiding loud music and also to deposit ‘Nirmalya’ (floral offerings) into bins kept at various immersion sites and not to dump flowers in the river,” said Falari.
