BICHOLIM: 82-year-old Bhago Bhairu Varak from ward 6 of Bicholim panchayat will be contesting the upcoming elections and has expressed full confidence in his victory.
Varak, donning his unique Dhangar hat and traditional attire, had been elected to the panchayat 10 years ago. “I do not have strong financial backing, but is that so important if you have strong local support? Our tribe is still disregarded at every level. Our traditional business of herding goats is in danger and our youth have no employment opportunities either. This is why I am contesting again,” said Varak.
