PANJIM: Amidst chaos and protests, the 85 Goa Cricket Association member clubs have strongly supported the managing committee members in the matter of financial irregularities. GCA has a total of 107 registered member clubs.
Addressing a press conference after holding a meeting of the 85 clubs, Dr Baban Parulekar, president of Vasco Sporting Club said that the clubs are strongly behind the managing committee.
“For the first time there is transparency in the GCA and cricket is moving forward and the clubs see no reason for the members to resign,” Parulekar said.
He also questioned the motive of the people demanding their resignation.
“Why should Chetan, Vinod and Mulla resign? Did Ramesh Tawadkar resign even after being charge-sheeted?” he asked.
Parulekar said that the clubs have decided to appoint a thee-member committee led by him to investigate into the matter.
“For the first time the clubs have come together and we want this case to be taken to its logical end. If we find the three guilty, believe us, the clubs would be first to ask them to resign,” he said.
He said Adv Jiva Bivshet and Narhar Thakur would be other members of the committee.
Sushant Naik of United Cricket Club, Mapusa, said that since the case is already being investigated what is the hurry?
“Let the police finish their investigation, let there be proof against the accused in black and white, only then we can decide something and not create drama like they did here today,” Naik stated.
Pointing to the protest he said, “It (protest) was unnecessary, as anyone who wanted to attend could have just registered their names. Why create this tamasha (spectacle)?”
Naik also alleged there were several scams committed by Vilas Desai and co in the purchase of Sanguem ground.
“Desai and Prasad Phatarpekar have altered the original sale deed due to which GCA suffered a loss of Rs 2.70 crore,” he alleged.
He said the clubs have demanded that a complaint be registered into the alleged scam. “We will ask GCA to file a complaint and if they fail, then we will do it on our own,” Naik said.
He said that all the scams in the GCA need to come out for the betterment of the game.
