Rs 1,700 were collected as fines. Restaurants, bars, grocery shops and a pharmacy in Assolna market were booked for not complying with Section 4 of Act, which covers ban on smoking in a public place and the requirement to display no smoking signage. Some establishments were also booked for violating Section 6 (A) which prohibits the sale of tobacco products to minors and the non-display of the mandatory signage.
The squad has been formed for enforcing the effective implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade, Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act 2003 in South Goa.
The squad was led by Joint Mamlatdar Avelina D’Sa Pereira along with Lorna Fernandes from GOACAN, Mamlatdar officials and Assolna police outpost personnel. A similar exercise was undertaken in Palolem last week.
