PONDA/BICHOLIM: Ninety cattle heads will be slaughtered on Wednesday for Eid at the Goa Meat Complex, Usgao, under heavy police protection.
Section 144 has been imposed at the Meat Complex to maintain law and order. A CCTV has been installed at premises to record the events. And Ponda PI Harish Madcaikar said that he has taken stock of situation at Usgao and has made arrangements accordingly.
The sources at the Meat Complex said that the officials have obtained all the permissions and renewed licences for slaughter.
It is leant that from August 22 to 24, cattle will be slaughtered at the facility. Around 90 cattle have been brought so far, more are likely to arrive in the coming days.
The meat complex has the capacity to slaughter around 150 cattle per day. Last year, during Eid festival, around 246 cattle were slaughtered.
Meanwhile, the cow vigilantes have requested police to not to allow any illegal transportation of cattle for slaughter.
It may be recalled that after expiry of various licences, the Meat Complex was not available for slaughter except for special occasion; besides, the facility was in need of renovation, which was another reason for not slaughtering the cattle there for the last few years.
Meanwhile, the State unit of Shiv Sena has called upon the government to keep a check on illegal slaughter of cattle on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference in Bicholim, the State general secretary Milind Gawas said that there was possibility of illegal slaughter being carried out in the State for Eid.
“We demand the government to keep a check on illegal slaughter of cattle to avoid any untoward incident,” Gawas said.
He also alleged that BJP was indirectly supporting illegal slaughter of cattle in the State. “We will oppose all such moves of illegal slaughter and will try to stop the same,” Gawas warned.
