VASCO: Irked over the “arrogant and hostile” attitude of Mormugao Mamlatdar’s office staff, Vasco residents have accused the few contractual employees of being “lazy and non-cooperative” towards the public visiting the office with regards to documents especially for enrolling themselves in the voters’ list.

It is pertinent to note that the Central and the State governments are encouraging voters to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise at the election. The Election Commission has also called upon the youth especially first-time voters to enroll themselves in the voters’ list.
The incident of “arrogant and hostile” attitude of Mormugao Mamlatdar’s office staff came to light when a woman from Vasco, who had gone to enroll her son’s name in the voters’ list on Friday, had a bitter experience wherein a contractual employee reportedly argued with her over some document error and allegedly behaved in a rude manner.
Peter Andrade, a Vasco resident said on Friday his wife had gone to enroll their son’s name in the voters’ list at around 3 pm. A female staffer at the voters’ registration office kept the people waiting for over 20 minutes as she was busy on her phone call.
Andrade claimed that when his wife requested the staffer to attend to their work, the female staffer reportedly started arguing that there is some error in the document regarding the house number.
“The rude behaviour of the government staff towards the people is unacceptable. My wife, who is a lawyer, is going to file a written complaint against the female staffer with the concerned Mamlatdar so that such embarrassing incidents don’t occur in future,” Andrade said.
Parshuram Sonurlekar of Goa First NGO and an activist from Mormugao said, “Goa First had filed an official complaint to the Mormugao Mamlatdar and Election Commission as contractual employees are engaged in handling election data wherein we doubt that these contractual employees are directly or indirectly connected with the ruling BJP.”
“There is a fear that confidential information such as contact details and Aadhaar Card can be shared with the BJP candidate during the election campaign. Therefore, Goa First requests the Election Commission and Mormugao Mamlatdar’s Office to remove these contractual employees and place experienced and trustworthy employees of Mamlatdar and Collector to do this job,” Sonurlekar added.
