“I have noticed hill cutting using JCB machine in Kenkre’s property away from widening area of National Highway road, creating much pollution and environment degradation. You are requested to (take) immediate action to stop this work and take appropriate action under law in the matter,” Ulhas Bhaje, a resident of Taleigao stated in the letter to the TCP Department and flying squad of office of the Collector in North Goa.

The local sought to know if any authority is given to the land owner to carry out the activity.

The entire stretch along the slope is witnessing rampant hill cutting for the purpose of road widening for several months with commuters alleging inconvenience as it has led to traffic chaos, air and noise pollution besides damage to the environment owing to the work.

Sources said the TCP will write to the local panchayat seeking copies of permissions granted if any for the work as well as documents submitted by the concerned parties involved in the matter.
