VASCO: They have been seeing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national leaders on television, but fruits, vegetable and fish vendors in Vasco were in for a pleasant surprise when AAP National Executive members Manish Sisodia and Dinesh Waghela dropped by to interact with them on Saturday.
Sisodia, Wagela, AAP in-charge of Goa desk Valmaki Naik, AAP State convenor Rajashree Nagarsekar, AAP North Goa Lok Sabha candidate Dr Dattaram Dessai, AAP South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Swati Kerkar and other members of AAP toured the Vasco and Mormugao constituencies, urging voters to elect the AAP candidates.
The AAP leaders paid their respect before the statue of T B Cunha near the Vasco fish market and later interacted with fruits, vegetable and fish vendors as well as customers, most of whom were in for a pleasant surprise.
As the news spread throughout the market, a large crowd gathered at the site and many people interacted with Sisodia and Wagela, assuring them of their support to the AAP.
Some vendors were heard saying that they will vote for AAP candidates for a change.
Swati Kerkar, who is not a stranger to the fish vendors, was also given a warm welcome as she had been in the forefront of an agitation during the demolition of houses at Khariwada.
Sisodia urged the vendors to vote for APP candidates and informed them that the time was ripe to bring about a change in the political system.
Speaking to Herald, Sisodia said the AAP want to give the electorate of Goa and India an alternate govt and not a substitute government like the two national parties.
“We are here to clean the system and this can only happen when the electorate votes out the corrupt and criminal politicians who have been ruling the electorate for the last 65 years,” said Sisodia.
When asked how the AAP would make a dent in Goan politics when their candidates are not well known among voters in North and South Goa, Sisodia replied: “It does not matter whether the candidate is popular or hi-fi, it is for the people to vote and bring about a change. It’s now or never.”
Waghela stated that the BJP and Congress have been providing a substitute government to the people, while AAP is the only alternative before the citizen of India.

“We are not against any individuals, but we are fighting for the people as decisions cannot be taken by sitting within the four walls. Decisions should be taken after consulting the electorate who has voted us and this is real democracy,” said Waghela.
