MAPUSA: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders from Mapusa staged a protest on Friday to highlight the deteriorating condition of garbage management in the town. They criticised the current Mapusa MLA for neglecting the pressing issues faced by the residents.
AAP Mapusa leader Salman Khan stated, “The numerous roadside waste dumps have made life unbearable, especially during the monsoon, raising fears of disease outbreak. The stench from these waste dumps is intolerable, making it difficult for residents to walk past without covering their noses.”
Khan also highlighted the numerous black spots across Mapusa, indicative of the poor services provided by the civic body. Despite collecting garbage taxes, the authorities had failed to address the waste management issue effectively, he lamented.
AAP leader Chetan Kamat expressed concerns about the quality of life in Mapusa, stating, that people’s lives here were surrounded by waste. The roads in Mapusa were in terrible condition, and there was no proper waste management. Visitors to Mapusa were greeted by heaps of garbage, reflecting poorly on one of the State’s largest city, he said.
Also present at the protest were AAP vice-president Gerson Gomes and other party members.
