MARGAO: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday conducted a raid at the residence of Colva panch member Calvert Gonsalves in a disproportionate assets case.
A team of ACB sleuths led by Police Inspector Raposo descended at Calvert’s residence on Wednesday noon to conduct the raid, which went on till late in the evening.
Calvert, who was not at home at the time of the raid, said he has moved the court for anticipatory bail, adding that he has nothing to hide.
The ACB had registered a disproportionate assets case against Calvert on Tuesday following preliminary inquiry based on certain inputs received from some sources. An ACB sleuth said that Calvert’s house was searched on the basis of a court order, adding that the agency will also move the court for an order to verify the bank accounts of the panch member.
Sources said the ACB sleuths have found documents pertaining to fixed deposits, which are not in Calvert’s name, and the agency will now verify all transactions from the bank how the fixed deposits were made on that particular person. “We are also verifying documents whether the panch member had any interest in real estate of particular real estate firms’, the ACB sleuth added.
Meanwhile, Calvert told Herald over the phone that he has got nothing to hide since he is an Income Tax payee. ‘Even the house is not owned by me. I am clean. I have nothing to hide”, he said.
