MARGAO: While detection in house breaking cases in the 16 police stations in South Goa has much to be desired, there has been a decrease in number of accidents including fatal accident.
Of the 12 cases of house breaking by day that were registered the police could solve only 8 with Fatorda Police detecting all three registered with them while Margao Town, Ponda and Vasco detecting one of the two registered with them and Collem police failing to solve the only such case registered at the police station.
Of the 47 house breaking by night cases registered at the different police stations police could detect only 22 cases with Curchorem detecting six of the seven cases registered there and Vasco police detecting seven of the 12 such cases registered there.
And while Maina Curtorim, Fatorda and Quepem police could not solve any of the two such cases registered by them during the year, Margao Town police could solve only one of the seven cases registered with it.
While the police could solve 20 of the 21 thefts in houses registered with them, they could detect only 32 of the 87 automobile thefts registered. And though they solved the three chain snatching cases registered the police could solve only 54 of the 70 other theft cases registered.
As for fatal accidents in 2018 92 such cases were registered as against the 121 fatal accidents registered in 2017 and similarly 215 motor vehicle accident cases were registered in 2018 while 269 such cases were registered in 2017.
Maina Curtorim registered the highest number of fatal accidents as there were 20 such cases registered there of which 16 were detected. In the second place was Ponda where 15 fatal accidents were registered and detected.
Verna Police could solve only 11 of the 14 fatal accidents registered by them while Fatorda detected all the 12 fatal accidents registered by them. Sanguem and Dabolim airport were the only police stations where not a single fatal accident case was registered.
Of the 215 other accident cases registered police solved 210 with Maina Curtorim Police failing to detect three of the 25 cases registered by them and Fatorda police failing to detect two of the 27 accident cases registered by them. Ponda Police had the best performance as they solved all the 49 other accident cases registered with them.
