BICHOLIM: The shifting of Bicholim taluka library has been delayed as the authorities are unable to find a place for the library.
Established on February 19, 1984, today more than 2500 people are members the library and is visited by more than 100 people every day from the city. The library is presently housed in the government primary school building at Bicholim and occupies two rooms of the school. Since last more than one year, the library is trying to find a new place as the existing building is likely to be demolished since it is in a dilapidated condition.
“The library was earlier under the Education Department and has now been handed over to the Department of Art and Culture. The library has several rare books and with 2500 members, it is an achievement for Bicholim,” a reader said.
There is proposal that the library could be shifted to the municipal library. However, even if the council is willing to accommodate the library, they are still to pass this in the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Bicholim MLA has also taken efforts to give the library a new place.
The other option suggested by the authorities is that the library be shifted to the town hall building which is also under the municipality.
