PANJIM: Old Goa Police arrested 25-year-old Krishnanath Shirodkar, a resident of Gaulebhat, Chimbel for allegedly raping a minor girl after absconding for nearly a fortnight.
According to Old Goa PI Jivba Dalvi, an FIR was registered on June 9 against the accused for allegedly raping a minor girl near a shopping mall along the Old Goa bypass.
As per the complaint of the mother, the minor victim aged 15 yrs had disclosed about the alleged incident to her after being dropped home by the accused. Police had immediately registered an offence under Section 376 IPC, Section 8(2) of Goa Children’s Act and Section 4 of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences).
The accused had been absconding after committing the offence and police were constantly on the hunt.
Jivba informed that on Saturday the police arrested the accused in the evening. The medical examination of the victim had confirmed the rape. During the subsequent investigation, police have also adduced section 377 IPC for having unnatural sex with the victim minor girl.
The accused is currently in police custody. Further investigation is in progress with LPSI Veronica Coutinho under the supervision of PI Dalvi.
