SALIGAO: A 40-member delegation comprising youth from Saligao and members of Revolutionary Goans condemned the recent robbery and attack on the taxi driver by two Karnataka natives.
A local taxi driver Sandeep Ugvekar from Saligao was attacked and robbed of Rs 18,000 cash and other documents very close to his home by two Karnataka natives on Wednesday evening.
The delegation visited the residence of the victim on Friday and later along with him met Saligao PI Santosh Dessai and demanded strict action in this matter.
Investigating Officer Amarnath Passi informed that they have arrested the two involved in this case and are on the lookout for another two.
The PI assured the delegation that the anti-social elements would be put behind bars.
A member of Save Saligao group, Ramesh Ghadi told Herald that the youth of Saligao are angry after this attack and robbery. Earlier, incidents of chain snatching and other small crimes were witnessed in the village.
“The migrants first took our hill, fields, business; now they are attacking our young boys. We are losing patience and cannot take it anymore. Sadly, these people are protected by the politicians and panchayat bodies. If lawfully nothing can be done then we are ready to take law into our hands. I feel corrective measures should be taken to solve this problem of migrant menace,” Ghadi said.
Founder member of Revolutionary Goans Manoj Parab highlighted that this attack on Sandeep by migrants is an attack on every peace loving niz goenkar. He alleged that the migrants are creating lot of damage to the identity and culture of Goa.
“They have now crossed the limit and attacked a local and robbed his money. We will not tolerate this and Goans will unite against this goondaism by migrants. We will not tolerate dadagiri by these outsiders in our land. We warn them not to test our patience,” Parab said.
