MARGAO: Yuva Goa convener Siddesh Bhagat reacting to Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho’s promise to regularise illegal structures in comunidade land has demanded that the government undertake a thorough survey starting with villages in Mauvin’s Godinho’s constituency of comunidade land holdings.
Briefing media persons, he pointed out earlier in 2012 too when he was an MLA Mauvin had raised the issue of regularising encroachments on comunidade land and termed this as mere political stunt as he keeps raising the matter only when election are round the corner.
“It is high time the government studies comunidade land holding in the State to find out how much land is with the comunidade, how much has been leased out and how much has been encroached upon,” he said and insisted that the study commence with villages in Godinho’s constituency.
He said the study will also reveal who was involved in enabling the migrants to encroach upon comunidade land and accused Mauvin of pandering to the migrant population while ignoring the ethnic Goans specially the tribal population.
“The issue of Kumeri cultivators who are tribal Goans is still not solved since 1989 and instead of taking up these issues Mauvin appears to be more concerned about legalizing the illegalities committed by migrants,” he said.
While pointing out that most of the comunidade land is in Goan villages, Siddesh alleged that Mauvin’s promise is also linked to the hidden agenda of urbanizing the entire State.
