The North Goa Congress Block committee on Saturday raised objection to party’s legislative wing decision not to contest the upcoming Zilla panchayat elections on party lines. The North Goa Congress Committee, Goa Mahila Pradesh Congress Committee, Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee and other frontal organisations unanimously resolved to contest the ZP polls on party symbol.
The workers have decided to approach Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat with their decision. Speaking to media persons after the meeting, party spokesman Sankalp Amonkar said that CLP cannot decide on behalf of the party.

He said that that the CLP before making its resolution public should have consulted party executive and other members. “Party had last month resolved to contest the polls on party lines and accordingly the workers had geared up. Suddenly, CLP makes announcement that it won’t contest polls on party lines. This cannot be accepted,” he said.
Amonkar said that though CLP has resolved, the party is supreme and hence the party’s decision would be final. He further claimed that party’s last minute decision to withdraw from contesting on symbol, may not go down well with the voters and supporters. The elections for 50 seats are scheduled on March 22.
