MARGAO: Excavation of the sand dune and dumping of garbage by a starred hotel along the road at Colva triggered outrage amongst local activists who have called for action against the perpetrators by the police and Goa State Pollution Control Board.

Even as the Colva police failed to lay their hands on the Delhi builder, who was holed up in the UK for destruction of the sand dune, unknown miscreants were found tampering with the sand dune by lifting away the sand from the site. “This is a crime and the police should put a stop to the continuous lifting away of sand. The government had restored the sand dune before the onset of monsoons after we raised up the issue with the authorities, but miscreants appear hell bent in further destroying the sand dune”, remarked activist Terezinha Fernandes.

What agitated the activists and local villagers was the audacity of the hotels in disposing off their waste all along the Gandaulim bandh. Waste in gunny bags were found dumped along the bandh, with citizens raising a hue and cry over the violation. “We have found from the gunny bags bills of a starred hotel. We have told the police to investigate and take the probe to its logical conclusion”, Terezinha said, while demanding stern action against the erring hotels.

The activists also demanded to know the whereabouts of the GSPCB and the police in addressing the grievances.  “The GSPCB should initiate stern action against the hotel involved in the waste dumping”, she demanded.
