MARGAO: The Mobor police outpost was planned in this tourist hub on the southern tip of Salcete’s coastal belt over a decade ago ~ which plays host to half-a-dozen starred resorts, besides other hotels and business establishments.
The demand for a separate outpost in Mobor stemmed from the fact that the area is not only a world-famous tourist hub, but is located kilometres away from the Colva Police Station having jurisdiction over the village.
Sadly, it’s now over a decade since the proposal was first mooted by the police department, but the outpost is yet to become a reality till date. If the proceedings for land acquisition and construction of the outpost building were marked by endless delays, the final opening of the building is now delayed for want of nod from the government given the ongoing Assembly session.
Given the inordinate delay, Mobor-Cavelossim villagers have called for the early inauguration of the Mobor police outpost. They maintained that though the building is ready since the last one year, the outpost has not been shifted in the building till date.
A local resident Rosario Fernandes told Herald that Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar should pay attention of the outpost and get it inaugurated at the earliest.
“We fail to understand why the authorities are dilly dallying on the opening of the outpost when the construction is complete in all respect”, he said.
Referring to Wednesday’s fire at Mobor and the delay on the arrival of the fire brigade, Rosario said the outpost could also be used to house a fire tender to meet the emergency fire requirements along the coastal belt.
