First meeting after last year’s Assembly poll debacle

MARGAO: Nearly a year after the Fatorda Congress Block was rocked by large-scale defections over denial of ticket to Vijai Sardessai, the Block Committee has resolved to revive Congress fortunes in Fatorda constituency represented by Independent MLA Sardessai.
The move to strengthen the Congress base in Fatorda was blessed by the South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, who was present at the meting along with Congress district President Subhash Faldesai, senior Congress leaders Luis Alex Cardozo and M K Sheikh, Congress minority leader Urfan Mulla, besides Fatorda Block Congress president Tito Cardozo and block Mahila Congress chief.
The task before the Committee was two-fold: One, to strengthen the party base eroded after the Assembly polls and secondly to restore confidence amongst the party ranks and file to rally behind the organization.
Addressing the workers, the South Goa MP expressed his full support to the Congress workers from Fatorda block in the attempt to strengthen the party base in the constituency. He said his doors are open for the workers from Fatorda and urged the workers to work with the people of the constituency.
During the interaction, the workers pointed out that senior leaders should guide and assist them how to go about the party work.
Senior leader Luis Alex Cardozo, besides M K Shaikh, who was defeated at the hustings, also addressed the meeting.
Block President Tito Cardozo said Friday’s meeting of workers was the first to be convened by the Fatorda block after last year’s polls. He said the Block would meet once a month.
