The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has sought representation on an independent committee that may review the draft final investigation report into the Air India AI-171 crash.
In a letter dated September 25 to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, FIP said it had learnt that the government was considering an independent review of the draft report before it is circulated and finalised.

The pilots’ body requested that it be formally nominated to the proposed mechanism, citing the need for experienced aviation professionals to examine technical aspects of the investigation.
FIP also said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) should have involved experienced pilots, engineers and aviation medicine specialists as subject-matter experts during the probe.
Air India flight AI-171, a Boeing 78, crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, killing 260 people.The AAIB is expected to complete its investigation and prepare the draft final report by October.
