PANJIM: Social activist Adv Aires Rodrigues on Monday petitioned the Goa Governor pointing to the alleged move of Adv Atmaram Nadkarni to continue as the State Advocate General (AG), even after being appointed as the Additional Solicitor General of India.
Rodrigues in a letter to Governor Mridula Sinha has sought that directions be issued to the State government to immediately appoint a new AG and not allow Nadkarni to continue. “It is very disturbing and extremely distressing that the very controversial and politically titled Nadkarni continues as AG despite being appointed as Additional Solicitor General of India,” Rodrigues said in his letter.
Nadkarni had tendered his resignation earlier this month, however, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, had moved a file requesting that Nadkarni may be allowed to continue as AG till a new appointment is made.
“Nadkarni may have tendered his resignation as AG to you (Governor). But this is mere eyewash while he is seeking to indefinitely continue also as the AG under the guise of until alternate arrangements are made by the government,” Rodrigues said.
Rodrigues has enclosed copies of the rules regulating the appointment of Attorney General, Solicitor General and Additional Solicitor General of India, which restrict Nadkarni from taking up dual responsibility.
