Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar Thursday flayed his opponents in the Goa assembly for finding fault in the functioning of the Goa Medical College expressing disgust over issues being raised to target an institution which he said is recognised as a reputed institution.
Days after clarifying that there was no problem concerning testing of blood and other bio-samples at the GMC, he refuted allegations of shortage of medicines at GMC and cancellation of surgeries due to absence of equipment.
Parsekar was replying to a Zero Hour notice raised by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte who drew the attention of the House to hardships being faced by patients at GMC due to shortage of medicines.
Khaunte said, “Patients are being made to buy medicines due to shortage of stock,” and grilled the health ministry as to why adequate and timely measures were not taken to ensure uninterrupted supply of drugs particularly for OPD patients and those under treatment for cancer, diabetes and other ailments.
While denying these allegations, Parsekar said all drugs are available at GMC. “In case there is some shortage we buy it from the local market and supply to the patients,” he said.
He also told the House that no surgeries have been cancelled at the operating theatres.
“There are 12 operation theatres and they are conducting full fledged surgeries,” he said.
