The South Goa Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced a resident of Ambaulim-Quepem to life imprisonment for the murder of a resident of Ambelim.
Additional Sessions Judge, B P Deshpande on Monday sentenced Anton Luis Fernandes (55) for the murder of Caitan Fernandes (42) from Ambelim on April 28, 2008.
The accused was further directed to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 or in default to undergo further imprisonment.
In this case, the Quepem police had charged accused Anton for causing Caitan’s murder with a sharp weapon.
Investigating Officer, PI Santosh Desai said the deceased from Ambelim had gone to Ambaulim for some work on that fateful day. However, instead of going to the right house, the deceased decided to sleep on a mat outside the house of the accused.
After heated arguments between the duo, the accused brought a sharp weapon to kill the deceased, PI Desai added.
