Ambelim against illegal structures regularisation

Margao: Ambelim gram sabha adopted a resolution not to allow any regularisation of illegal constructions in the low lying fields of the village.

Furthermore, the gram sabha urged the panchayat to take corrective action and remove all such illegal structures.
At the gram sabha held on Sunday, the locals raised their objections to a proposal of a panch member to regularise several alleged illegal houses that have been constructed in low lying fields on the grounds that the occupants have been residing there for over a decade. To this, the gram sabha members demanded to know if the houses in question had carried out any land conversion before the said construction.
The gram sabha was informed that the panchayat had already asked the owners to submit all relevant documents to the panchayat to support their structure. The gram sabha also informed that some had submitted the files while the remaining were to submit the same shortly. To this, the gram sabha members demanded that a reminder be sent to the occupants and if they fail to meet the deadline then the panchayat should initiate action as per the law.
On the government’s recent policy decision to regularise illegal construction on private land, a point that was raised by deputy sarpanch Tyron Fernandes, the villagers urged the panchayat to be vigilant and not to allow any such illegal constructions in the village. The gram sabha categorically rejected the government’s policy decision and agreed that it was upto the villagers to decide what is best for the village’s future and development.
