Amonkar Raises Alarm Over Eviction Notices to Mormugao Families

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Goa Legislative Assembly, MLA Sankalp Amonkar highlighted the distress faced by long-settled residents of Mormugao who have received eviction notices from the Mormugao Port Authority. Addressing a submission to Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate, Amonkar stated that many affected families have lived on the land for decades, with several settlements dating back to before 1972. He noted that repeated show-cause notices have created fear and anxiety, particularly among senior citizens. Amonkar also pointed out that temples and churches located on the same land are facing similar eviction threats, which could disturb communal harmony and local peace. He alleged that the eviction drive contradicts the spirit of the government’s housing initiatives, including the Mhaie Ghar Yojana, and urged the government to clarify steps to safeguard housing security and residents’ rights.
