Anjuna locals gherao PWD officials over shortage of water

MAPUSA: Frustrated residents of Anjuna on Tuesday gheraoed the office of Public Work Department (Water Section) and confronted AE over shortage of water supply. They also submitted a memorandum seeking immediate action and gave two days ultimatum to the PWD officials failing which they threatened to call for massive protest outside the PWD office on Thursday. 

Anjunkars claimed that since the past one-and-half year, they have not received regular water supply.

“For the last one year we haven’t received a single drop of water. No authority is bothered about it and have turned blind eye towards this issue. We have now given two days ultimatum to the AE and if the issue is not resolved then we will hold a massive protest at the PWD office”, a villager said.

“Even after visiting the office again and again, the concerned department have failed to act. If we ask for tanker, they give us false assurances. We buy tanker for Rs 1000 but it is not feasible to buy the tanker on daily basis and nor we have the provision to store the same”, a housewife said.
