The recently dug roads to lay underground power cables for a private resort at Chapora are still open at few places and are not brought back to its original shape, thus posing threat to lives of locals and tourists as well.
There is every possibility that vehicles, especially 2-wheelers and cars, could be damaged due to open and bad roads during monsoon. Life could also be lost due to the bad roads leading to Anjuna-Vagator.
Though the locals of the area had raised their opposition to the illegal digging of roads at the end of May, the authorities concerned especially the PWD, have failed to repair and restore the roads to their original state till date.
The locals especially the 2-wheeler riders travelling to and fro daily on the Anjuna roads hope the repairs would be carried out before monsoon.
The Anjuna-Caisua Panchayat has written to the PWD assistant engineer, highlighting the plight of road users and the urgency in repairing the roads before the onset of the monsoon. Besides, the Executive Engineer, at Mapusa, has also been informed of the same.
A copy of the letter has also been forwarded to the local MLA and WRD Minister, Dayanand Mandrekar.
Anjuna Deputy Sarpanch Savio Almeida said: “We have written a letter to the PWD authorities at Siolim and Mapusa. We have also brought it to the notice of the local MLA and WRD minister the bad state of roads in the village and the urgency in repairing the same.”
However, the attitude of the authorities, so far, has been one of uncaring, lamented Almeida. He opined sarcastically that the government and its authorities should be as prompt in repairing the roads, as they are in transferring the panchayat secretaries.
