A fast track court has acquitted a resident of Arambol in a 2022 case in which he was accused of sexually assaulting a foreign national under the pretext of offering a mud bath at a local lake.
The court extended the benefit of doubt to the accused, noting that the complainant was not examined during the trial, making it difficult to substantiate the allegations. It observed that the circumstantial evidence presented before the court was insufficient to establish guilt.

The prosecution’s case was further weakened after two key witnesses turned hostile, while the scene of offence panchanama was not successfully proved.
Additionally, the court pointed out lapses in the investigation, including the absence of supporting documents to confirm the complainant’s presence in Goa at the time of the alleged incident.
