PANJIM: Panjim Police are investigating the death of an Assamese couple, who may have committed suicide at a rented room. Their bodies were found by their neighbours early Tuesday morning after which police were alerted and a team was rushed to the site.
Old Goa Police Inspector Sudesh Velip, who is holding additional charge of the Panjim Police Station, told Herald that the couple identified as Shrimanta Borah, 31 years, and Rimpi Borah, 22 years, were found dead and a preliminary investigation reveals the case is suicide.
“The man was found hanging while the woman was lying dead on the bed. There is no suicide note but it is suspected to be a case of suicide. Exact cause will be known only after the post mortem examination,” he said.
The couple had come to Goa as husband and wife two years ago and had taken up a job here. Both are natives of Assam. Shrimanta was employed as a security guard at a starred hotel in the capital and Rimpi was working at a stall in a mall, a few meters away from her husband’s place of work.”
The two were residing at Chincholim in Taleigao. The police are also recording statements of witnesses.
