MARGAO: The Assolna village gram sabha on Sunday opposed the proposed airport at Mopa, saying the new airport close to Maharashtra border would affect the livelihood of the Goans and tourism.

MARGAO: The Assolna village gram sabha on Sunday opposed the proposed airport at Mopa, saying the new airport close to Maharashtra border would affect the livelihood of the Goans and tourism.
Gram sabha members pointed out that Mopa airport will not benefit Goa, but only Sindhudurg- Maharashtra and called upon the government for the upgradation of Dabolim airport.
There was also unanimity among the gram sabha members who adopted a resolution asking the  government to recognize Konkani in Rome Script.
The gram sabha were informed that panchayat has called tender for the construction of children park in the village. Members were informed that the decision on construction of the cattle pond will be taken  after consulting the two neighbouring village panchayats of Velim and Ambelim.
Members of gram sabha expressed their fear over influx of migrants in the village and demanded that it be monitored by the panchayat body. The villagers also demanded that the gram sevak implement and communicate locals on various government schemes available for benefit of public.
