VASCO: Newly built Cansaulim Primary Health Centre has now been transformed into Step-up COVID centre. However, the delay in allotment of the Medical team and construction of STP apparently held up its opening, claimed Cortalim MLA, Alina Saldhana.
Saldhana further tried justifying the delay stating that the area where the hospital infrastructure is built has a high watertable and therefore the STP work was pending. “This issue was discussed with the GSIDC engineer who later fabricated the STP and then installed it. Another reason for the delay was the allotment of the medical team to make this new hospital operational to serve the people by giving proper medical facilities and care,” Saldhana said.

Saldhana said Vishwajeet Rane had inspected the readiness of the newly built Cansaulim PHC along with the doctors and it was decided the hospital will be made operational with proper medical facilities. “It is a very good hospital and I feel it has been made operational at the right time when it is most needed. I am very grateful to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane, Engineers of GSIDC and everyone who has contributed in their ways to build this infrastructure. It is the dream of Late Mathany Saldhana whose vision to have good PHC in Cansaulim has become reality” MLA added.
Health Officer, Dr. Soccur Quadros who is in charge of Cansaulim Step-Up COVID hospital revealed that COVID positive patients with low oxygen levels and co-morbidities would be treated in the hospital. “Testing for COVID19 will also take place and other patients with other health issues will also be catered on the ground floor. All the necessary things have been taken care of,” said Dr Quadros.
Roquozine D’Souza, a social worker from Velsao, said that he along with many people from Cansaulim and nearby villages are happy upon the opening of PHC was made operational as it was long waited to have such medical infrastructure in the village. “I only feel that this PHC should have been completed and made functional much before and I would blame the Directorate of Health Services for this delay as he should have pursued this project on urgency” D’ Souza said.
Jose Maria Furtado, Cansaulim Sarpanch echoed the same sentiment and said, “I would like to give credit to the Cortalim MLA Alina Saldhana who pursued this project and made it a reality. Surely, people in this COVID pandemic will find this medical facility helpful,” said Furtado.
