MARGAO: It will be nearly three months since the South district Collectorate was shifted in the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex with much fanfare. Except the treasury, almost all the revenue offices stands shifted to the imposing building.
But, two old and rusting Ambassador cars – which once ferried the Collectors and the Additional Collectors – have been left behind in the old collectorate building. Along with the two Ambassadors, an ambulance bought under the MPLAD schemes is also found parked in the Old Collectorate.
Visitors at the government treasury still housed in the old Collectorate building have questioned the rationale for leaving behind the unused and rusting Ambassador cars. They pointed out that the parking area where the two Ambassador cars stand parked lie in a dilapidated condition.
When contacted to throw light on the two Ambassador cars parked in the Old Collectorate, District Collector N D Agrawal said the administration has started the process of disposing off the two cars, besides the ambulance. “We had called for the auction to dispose off the vehicles, but the process has gone haywire since the bidder quoted less than the upset price. In such a situation, the administration had to follow the laid down procedure and wait for 21 days to see any bidder comes up with a better offer. Since no one has come with an improved amount, we will again move to the government for sanction to accept the first bid,” Agrawal added.
