Sanguem: Large scale construction on government property which was allotted for a proposed IIT project in Cotarli village of Sanguem taluka have come to fore. The panchayat authorities despite being informed of the illegal activities have failed to initiate any action in the matter as of now.
Sources revealed the land under illegal construction is located close to the unoccupied Police residential colony which is on a hillock accessible only with a rough mud road.
The illegal constructions are reportedly learnt to have mushroomed much recently and are barely around four to five months old. While three constructions are already in the final stage, more are likely to come in the near future as authorities have preferred to remain silent over the issue for reasons best known to them.
Incidentally while the constructions were in preliminary stages, a villager Santano Rodriguez residing in the locality had sought information from the village panchayat of Uguem under Right to Information Act for details pertaining to the said illegal constructions and whether the panchayat had given any permission for the illegal constructions.
The panchayat in its reply have however denied of having given any licence or NOC but incidentally choose not to act against the illegal constructions despite being informed of the same.
Sarpanch of Uguem Village Panchayat Sanjay Parwar acknowledged of having received the complained and assured immediate action in the matter.
Parwar informed that a site inspection by the panchayat officials a long with the local panchayat member would be undertaken soon and action deem fit against the persons involved in the involved in the illegal construction activity will be initiated.
The complainant Santano Rodrigues however alleged inefficiency by the panchayat and doubted over the reasons for delayed action against the persons involved in illegal activity.
Rodrigues also doubted of illegal activities being conducted in the premises and urged the police authorities to keep a tab on the mushrooming illegal constructions on the government land.
