PANJIM: Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat demands termination of the company which is being given the task to install HSRP number plates on vehicles which, he feels, has failed to do the job correctly. He said the installation process of HSRP number plates is chaotic, time consuming and the RTO officials have to face the brunt of the locals.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Kamat stated that fitting of HSRP number plates is a real blunder causing chaotic situations and time consuming for the common people.
He said that during his recent visit to an RTO office in South Goa, while he was interacting with the officers, several locals confronted the RTO officials and started complaining about the installation of High Security Registration Plates which they feel are time consuming, chaotic and without proper systematic mechanism. Kamat informed that he pacified the aggrieved crowd at that moment.
Kamat further said that the company which has taken the job of installing HSRP number plates is unfit to do the job. Citing an example, he said that few days back some locals from Quepem had come to Margao to install these number plates but on the given date, these people had to wait for hours to get their number plates installed.
He also said that he had suggested the Transport Director and the Minister of Transport for having online registration service for such number plates. “They assured me that on Monday onwards they will do it online,” Kamat said.
Kamat further said that he even suggested to the authorities to put up four counters on the ground floor categorically for senior citizens, differently-abled persons, general public and one for women.
“If this is implemented, then, there will be smooth functioning,” Kamat claimed.
Kamat demanded to terminate the company which has been given task of installation of these HSRP number plates and forfeit its bank guarantee and govt should go for fresh tendering.
Meanwhile, Kamat has also criticised the government for its uncontrolled expenditure on various events such as Vibrant Goa, giving funds to GST council etc.
which are not of utmost priority.
“The self help groups providing midday meals to the children etc need to be given money and this should be the priority of the state and therefore CM should think before spending liberally on non-priority activities,” Kamat said.
