Bailancho Saad calls for probe

PANJIM: Bailancho Saad Monday condemned the alleged recordings in the trial room of Fabindia’s Candolim store, when Union Minister Smriti Irani was trying on clothes, and demanded a thorough investigation and action.

The NGO in its Saturday meeting also took stock of the increasing incidents of invasion of privacy and voyeurism taking place in commercial establishments, government and private institutions using technology such as mobiles, CCTVs and electronic devices. Bailancho Saad stated that women are generally reluctant to file cases in instances where they have been recorded in a state of undress as they face further trauma of voyeurism when these recordings go to several people such as police, lawyers, judges in the course of the trial. Bailancho Saad has sought quick action in these matters too and demanded that these cases have to be investigated from all angles as many of these recordings could be posted on websites or used to attract tourists for wrong purposes. “Clear protocols in these matters need to be laid out and implemented,” Convenor Dr Sabina Martins said and demanded preventive action to ensure that women’s privacy is not invaded.
