MARGAO: Demanding the removal of Lyndon Monteiro as Chairman of Goa Meat Complex, the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) on Monday demanded a judicial inquiry into what it called as a scam in the sale and purchase of beef in the state.
UGDP Secretary General Anacleto Viegas has warned the government that if fresh wholesome meat is not made available in the state at an affordable price, the UGDP will no longer be found wanting to raise the voice of the people to make the abattoir fully operational and meat available at a reasonable price. “The abattoir must be made fully functional so that the price of poor man’s food is available within his reach. The likes of Lynden Monteiro must be immediately removed from the chairmanship of the Goa Meat Complex as he has a conflicting interest in the sale and purchase of meat in Goa. Why should only 27 animals be culled when 100 animals can be slaughtered in a day and revenue earned for the state”, Anacleto said.
“Since Lyndon has taken over the chairmanship of Goa Meat Complex, the cost of beef has increased two fold. Let an independent person head the Goa Meat Complex lest the consumers are exploited by unscrupulous persons. The scam in the sale and purchase of beef must be fully exposed through a judicial inquiry and Lyndon arrested and detained for allegedly manipulating the price of beef”, he said, while urging the government to think and act rationally.
Anacleto said the so-called animal lovers who are selective in their approach, are totally indifferent to the suffering of cattle/ animals in their old age. “The so-called animal lovers must be restrained from imposing their political contacts on the peoples’ food habits. The cow has been a sacred animal during the ages, but the bullocks and buffalos which labour and provide nutrition during their lifetime and after, need to be placed in a different category”, he said.
