Sources said CEO Subrata Datta and Managing Director William Bissel will appear before the Crime Branch’s investigation team at its Ribandar office, Tuesday morning. Store manager Chaitralli Sawant, will also be present.
Sawant was granted anticipatory bail by the Mapusa Court on Monday, and asked to be present before the Crime Branch officers for two days (Monday and Tuesday) as part of the investigation. While granting bail, Judge Desmond D’Costa said that all the sections applied in the case are bailable, except Section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) of IPC. However, he said that Section 354 of IPC does not apply to her, as she was not present in the store when the alleged incident happened. The store manager went into hiding after four store employees were arrested under Sections 354, 354C (voyeurism), 509 (intrusion of privacy) and 66E (capturing, publishing image of private area of any person without his/her consent) of the IT Act. Later, Section 201 (destruction of evidence) was also added. All employees were bailed out within a day of their arrest, last week. The Crime Branch has recorded the statement of a technician who confirmed that the CCTV camera fitted outside the trial room at Fabindia’s Candolim store was ‘rigged.’
Meanwhile reports say that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the company cannot be blamed for the mischief played by employees at its store, calling Fabindia a reputed company. According to him some ‘womanisers’ must have done that.
