Baina local gets four-year RI

South Goa additional district and sessions judge, Vijay D Pol on Friday sentenced Mainuddin Pathan, 21, resident of Baina, Vasco to undergo four years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and in default to under one month simple imprisonment.

MARGAO:  South Goa additional district and sessions judge, Vijay D Pol on Friday sentenced Mainuddin Pathan, 21, resident of Baina, Vasco to undergo four years of rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and in default to under one month simple imprisonment. 

The accused was charged under section 394 IPC, (voluntarily causing hurt while attempting to commit robbery) and the indictment was filed by Vasco police against him.  

Public prosecutor Subhash Dessai examined 11 witnesses in the case. Two of the accused in the case Sarvesh Naik and Raj Das have been acquitted.

On January 1, 2011 at 6 pm on the railway track, near Taniya hotel, Vasco the accused persons assaulted complainant Ravindra Rai with slaps and blows due to which the complainant suffered fracture to his left hand. Further the accused also snatched cash, Nokhia mobile, identity card, ATM card, voters card and other documents of the complainant.
